History

Mainly Lou's was a restaurant/tavern in Cedar Falls lasting from 1994 to 2005. Located on Main Street in the former home of Dean's Parkade Lounge, Lou's booked music on weekends, generally charging no cover. Although there were many exceptions, standard rock n blues fare was what was usually found on stage. In terms of Cedar Valley music, Lou's often served as a bridge between the folk/blues roots of local residents and the indie/punk/nouveau-hippie tastes of the 90's.

• "Lou" is derived from the nickname of owner: Linda Miller. Ms. Miller managed the Other Place on College Hill for a number of years before opening Lou's.

• Sadly, many will remember Lou's more for it's "Wednesday Night Karaoke" than it's genre defying and experimental "Sunday Night Blues Jam."
• At Mainly Lou's Open Mic, I once witnessed an extended version of "No Woman No Cry" that lasted over 30 minutes. True. Matt Wilson
