So's Your Mother
From The Secret History of the Cedar Valley
So’s your Mothers was a Des Moines bar that had live music. On the worst corner of the worst hood in DM, fights and gunshots were frequent. Famous for the geodesic dome roof over the dancefloor and dark beer garden where anything could happen. Mothers opened their basement for punk rock shows, starting “Mothers Underground” The Beveragemen and Drednex played their regularly.
They closed on NYE in 1986, Drednex and Boys With Toys were the last bands to play there.
NOTE: Brad Jones – the noted Nashville producer and owner of Alex the Great Studio (Jill Sobule, Butterfly Bouche, David Bowie) was in BWT. Possibly our scene’s most famous alumnus.
