History

The Side Q Concept was formed in 1988 from four students at Cedar Falls High School. They were led by the charismatic Professor Q, a alter-ego developed by Nathan Perry. The philosophical inquiries and poetic treatises contained in their music gave them a large cult following, though they played a very small number of live shows.

Live Shows / Tours

Their most infamous show was in the spring of 1988 when they played at the "Battle of the Bands" at CFHS. It was recorded live off of the soundboard and is one of the only extant recordings of the band. Matt Wilson was known to join the band from time to time, including at a show at the Boat House and a reunion song at a party in Matt Wilson's basement, December 1988. The band was invited to perform at the Cedar Falls High School Class of 1988 Senior Breakfast. At the early morning event, the band had some difficulty starting their one and only cover song, "Mamas, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys," and the school principal joined Professor Q on stage. A concert of nearly all new material held in Brian Stockdale's basement was recorded on tape, but the recording has not survived.
