History
An improvisational live instrument/electronic group who played a few shows circa 2003-2004.
Basically, Chuck came up to Tom one day while he was working at the Blue Moon Cafe and said, "Hey, you and me should start a band called Passage Of Deformed Man Supermarket." He was kind of joking around really, because he had just come up with the name, taken from a picture of a sign in China, that he had seen on [www.engrish.com]. Tom replied with, "Okay, we have a gig at the Vibe," and rattled off a date about a month later. Flyers with the name were printed and distributed and on the appointed date Chuck and Tom showed up at the Vibe with an assortment of odd instruments, machines, toys, general noise-making objects, some of them homemade by Vanderwall himself, and Vanderwall's Echoplex looping machine, and made a general improvised psych-inducstrial/noise racket.
It was decided that Passage Of Deformed Man Supermarket ("Your hypno-noise-loop-assault-weaponry specialists") should continue playing shows, so Vanderwall and Hoffman arranged to begin holding rehersal/recording sessions in Vanderwall's attic. At the first of these, Phillip Sterk showed up, due to an accidental schedule conflict with he and Tom's other project, Ton-Ton. Sterk ended up joining PODMS.
Over the next couple years, Passage intermittently played their all-improvised music for audiences and even started drawing pretty good crowds, releasing four CD-R albums.
