HKS
From The Secret History of the Cedar Valley
History
The full name of the band was Helen Keller's Senses. When Static Farm was starting to go sour Jason Kerns and Matthew Hundley began experimenting with loop tapes, recording snippets of movies and Ronald Reagan, playing highly effect driven trumpet and utilizing keyboard. HKS first performance was at the second of two June band blasts in Hundley's basement. HKS eventually added drummer Scott Chidester for two shows at Dean's Parkade Lounge. The first opening for SST band Social Unrest (late 1986?). The first show featured an odd mix of 60's covers, originals and a short experimental set in the middle. HKS scored another opening slot at Deans (early 1987) which featured all originals (Joy Division meets Scratch Acid was the sound they were trying for).
HKS re-emerged in 1989 as the name for various solo and group projects that Matthew Hundley was recording and performing with in Boulder, Colorado. Some of the musicians involved included: Bill Heideman (Human Document), Jon Martinez (Naram Sin) and David Delaski (Electric Skychurch, Lord Runningclam).
