History

An impromptu DIY label set up in 1988 by Matt Wilson to release material by bands he was in and bands friends were in. No one had the money to afford to put out a '45 single, much less a real album. So mostly punk bands in CF would record demos to cassette and pass them around virally. Dork Tapes was an attempt to do just that in a more direct manner. The idea was that people would send blank 90 min cassettes to Dork Tapes HQ and request a title. Dork Tapes would dub the title onto the cassette and send it back. No money was involved.

Unfortunately, Wilson went off to art school and didn't really have time for Dork Tapes anymore.
